Ernesto F. Costa (1926-2005), an eclectic painter of the streets and people of his native New York as well as Shinnecock Hills, Southampton, where he settled and raised his family and came to be known as “The Shinnecock Hills Painter”, will be the focus of a panel discussion to be held at Book Revue.
Costa’s daughter, Deidre Costa, will join his son, Chris Costa, his wife, Judith Ann Costa, and artist, writer and friend Robert Cariola to discuss Ernesto Costa’s work and the new book of his paintings, prepared by Judith Ann Costa, Costa: Shinnecock Hills Painter.
Costa: Shinnecock Hills Painter interests art lovers not only for the striking paintings it brings together but also as an archival pictorial record of New York and the areas around it, as seen through the eyes of a sensitive and skillful artist during the 1940s and 1950s and into the second half of the 20th century. In his deceptively simple style, Costa depicts again and again the neighborhoods and ethnic diversity he knew so well, rendering with confidence the vital aspect of places and the essential quality of individuals.
Ernesto Costa’s work has been exhibited at the Philadelphis Academy of Fine Arts, Brooklyn Museum, Grace Gallery, National Art League, Parrish Art Museum, Nassau County Museum of Art, Hutchins Gallery, Chelsea Center, and the New York Catholic Center. His work is currently on exhibit at Americana Manhasset Gallery.
